FIELD TRIP | F60 overburden conveyor bridge _Brandenburg

In April 2024, our institute visited the F60 overburden conveyor bridge in the Elbe-Elster district as part of our current INTO THE OPEN master class.

The F60 was built on site by VEB TAKRAF Lauchhammer from 1989 to 1991. This bridge is the last of five series units built. It was in operation from March 1991 to June 1992 and the steel structure is also known as the "Lusatian Eiffel Tower".

The total length is 502 metres, making it 182 metres longer than the Eiffel Tower. Its enormous dimensions are underlined by its width of 204 metres and height of almost 80 metres. The excavation capacity of the two excavators in the high and low cut is 60 metres in total, hence the name F60.

It is this ‘infinitely’ long line, a spatio-temporal line "INTO THE OPEN", that has interested us.
